Orthodontics – The Case for Braces
You’ll have seen plenty of teenagers wearing braces. Wearing braces is a right of passage for many with childhood orthodontic treatment commonly used to treat problems such as crowding, protruding teeth, deep overbite, open bite, spacing and cross bite.
Orthodontic Treatment for Adults
You’ll probably also have seen more adults wearing braces over recent years. That’s because treatment from people like us is now more readily available. In the case of our Budapest service it’s also far more affordable. Up to 70% cheaper than UK prices!
So it’s never too late to have the smile always wanted. Especially now. And it’s not just the smile. Improved confidence, self-esteem and happier professional and personal lives are other common benefits of successful orthodontic intervention.
There are functional health benefits too. Health wise straighter teeth are easier to keep clean than crooked teeth and are less likely to be damaged by tooth decay or contribute to gum disease.
Malocclusion Treatment
Braces help straighten and move teeth cause by Malocclusion, the often hereditary misalignment of teeth that can cause them to be crooked or crowded and cause abnormal tooth surface wear, irregular chewing function and excessive jaw stress. Treatment helps spread bite pressure, improves appearance and function and remedy the severe headaches, face and neck pain so often caused.
Would a veneer do just as good a job?
Cosmetically yes, as a superficial 5-10 year fix, but a veneer wouldn’t address structural issues. Instead of straightening teeth as braces would, a veneer would simply act to cover up imperfections. If you’re looking for a proper long term solution – a lovely smile to last you a lifetime then get a brace.

What Type of Braces Are Available?
At MDC provide a range of braces specialising on Invisalign®, Myobrace, Alexander and Damon® Systems.
Here’s an overview:
- Alexander braces can be made of metal or ceramic. They apply gentle pressure that gently moves the teeth. Discreet, clear aligners that auto-adjust to the tooth’s natural colour the Alexander system is particularly popular with adults as they adjust to the tooth’s natural colour.
- Damon have a white ceramic aligner base and metal slide mechanism to hold the wire. This enables teeth to move freely, quickly and comfortably than elastic or metal “ties” systems. It also means that treatment time is shorter and adjustments fewer.
- The Myobrace System is unlike other orthodontic treatment in that it is largely focused on correcting the causes of crooked teeth and underdeveloped jaws. Retraining the oral muscles at the same time as aligning teeth.
A complementary form of teeth straightening Myofunctional therapy is not intended substitute proper orthodontic appliances.
